There are no real definitions of who a woman needs to be… or so they say. Yet every morning. I must choose to wear what makes my male counterparts comfortable.
At the risk of coming across as a prude, I cannot wear anything too conservative. I need to stay “cool” enough, to penetrate the little boys club, and be rewarded with a few inside jokes and an invite to the after work beer garden shenanigans.
Well then why not be fresh, vibrant and exciting? Be the friendly face people can approach, but am I really management material? Maybe people love and trust me, or maybe I am just a little too immature for leadership. Apparently, being young, trendy and different equates to unable to show authority.
Since people find it hard to make a distinction between a compliment and harassment, let’s just dress the way we compliment our male counterparts? “Look how well this suit fits him” or “Gosh, his perfectly shaped beard and man-bun makes him look so cool and approachable.” Well that would involve me wearing something that fits my body, and being that I am 30 years old with a normal adult sized body, I am now officially promiscuous. Seems like all my hard work and intelligence magically disappeared.
Being in the automobile, finance business has constantly posed a mind boggling maze each morning as I rummage through my closet. Don’t get me wrong, I love to work, I love everything about the successes and recognition and more importantly I have spend near a decade trying to prove myself. Yet each morning I am stifled with what to wear. How can a successful, career woman still struggle each morning with the dilemma of what to wear?
This is my first attempt at blogging and while both fashion and writing are far from my daily job as a Statistician, I am hoping to get some cost effective, fun-office ensembles to share with you. Having ready ideas makes my mornings a little easier, and I hope it helps you too.
